To ensure a better photo capturing experience, below are requirements you can be aware of to successfully capture your photo.

• Keep a neutral expression
• No head coverings that cover the face
• No electronic devices worn — wired/wireless headphones, headsets, and the like are not acceptable during photo capture
• No disguises, costumes, or masks of any kind are acceptable
• No one else should be within view of your webcam
• The overhead room lights should be on to avoid it being too dark
• Avoid placing your hands on your face or resting your chin on your hands as these activities may disqualify you

There is no limit to the number of times the online knowledge test can be taken, however, the following rules apply:

• If an applicant fails the online test, they will have to wait one calendar day after the date of the failed test to attempt another test online.
• If an applicant is disqualified from an online test, they will have to wait 24 hours after the date/time of the disqualified test to attempt another test online.

• KnowTo Drive Online uses photo capture to ensure the person taking the test is the person who signed up to take the test. Tests cannot begin until a photo is taken, and photos will be taken at random during the online knowledge test to stop others from providing information or other resources.
• During a customer’s follow up appointment, DMV employees will cross-reference images taken during the test to prevent fraud. This ensures the person who took the test is the one in front of the DMV employee getting their credentials processed.

The KnowTo Drive Online knowledge test is available in English and Spanish languages in both text and audio.

A disqualification occurs when the mouse cursor hovers outside the red boundary lines of the testing window after being warned, or due to the site not being able to detect your face or detecting other people’s faces during the test session.

• You’re being told to visit the DMV because your identity was not able to be validated online. The validation process is completed through a national third-party identity verification partner and due to privacy and fraud prevention concerns the causes for these failures are not disclosed.
